  • Since ancient times Peniche lived intimately linked to the sea. Initially it was an island but then with the wind and tidal current become a peninsula. Its strategic location, the richness of their land and its coast was where occupided by several civilizations since prehistoric times, more precisely at the Middle Paleolithic.
  • With the Roman occupation the economy of the population was mainly based on agriculture and fishing, stating the importance at the time of the canning industry, an activity that continues today.

     Peniche has been and will continue to be the stage of the world’s best surfers. The fantastic waves, the spectacle of the manoeuvres, the presence of the best surfers in the world, and the party atmosphere makes the Rip Curl Pro Portugal – Peniche an event not to be missed!

    The beaches of Peniche

    Globally famous thanks to its tubular waves. It is located in the National Ecological Reserve Zone.
    Recognized for its environmental quality, it was awarded the “Blue Flag” and also the flag that stands for “Beach Accessible to All”.
    The Beach of Supertubos is the stage of one of the most prestigious competitions, on a national and international level, between all-waves related sports.

    Beach break with good left and right peaks.
    It’s a beach break but you can find some rocks at the low tide.
    In classic days there are tubular and long waves.

    Long beach break with right and left hand peaks. Strong and sometimes you find some tubular waves.
    It’s a big beach and you can find a spot to surf alone.

    Right long wave that breaks on a bench stone. Best for surfing because the characteristics of the wave that is a little fat.
    There’s also a left next tothe fortress also good but only works with big swells.

    Reef with long lefts. It’s a fat wave but very funny to surf.
    Beginners  can surf next to lagide in Prainha. Works with big swells.

    Molhe Leste
    Right-hand point break on sandy bottom, forming by the East pear.
    Requires big swell to work. Excellent waves for surf and bodyboard with long tubular sections.

    Very long sandy beach with multiple peaks from Peniche to Baleal island. Good for begginers to start surfing.
    Works with big swells.
